Treatment for Anxiety

Therapy for Anxiety throughout Maryland
Anxiety can feel like a constant hum in the background of your life — a restless, unsettled sense that something is wrong even when everything looks fine. It can show up as a racing mind that won't quiet down at night, a knot in your stomach before ordinary situations, or an impulse to avoid the things that trigger those feelings. Over time, anxiety has a way of quietly shrinking your world. If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. Anxiety is one of the most common mental health concerns among adults, and it is also one of the most treatable. As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland, I work with adults every day who are ready to stop letting anxiety run the show.
What does anxiety look like?
Anxiety presents differently for different people. Some of the most common signs I see in my clients include:
- Excessive worry that is difficult to turn off, even when you know it is disproportionate
- Panic attacks — sudden waves of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms like a racing heart, shortness of breath, or dizziness
- Persistent physical tension, restlessness, or trouble sleeping
- Difficulty concentrating because your mind keeps returning to worst-case scenarios
- Irritability or feeling on edge without a clear reason
- Avoiding situations, people, or places that trigger anxious feelings
- A world that feels like it is getting smaller as you avoid more and more
Anxiety is also frequently accompanied by other mental health conditions. It is common for anxiety and depression to co-occur, and ADHD can significantly amplify anxious symptoms. As a licensed professional, I can help you untangle what you are experiencing and build a clear path forward.
How I approach anxiety therapy
My approach to treating anxiety is integrative and evidence-based, meaning I draw on multiple proven therapeutic techniques and adapt them to what works best for you as an individual.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is one of the most well-researched treatments for anxiety. Together, we examine the thought patterns that fuel your anxiety — the automatic assumptions and catastrophic thinking that keep the worry cycle spinning — and work to replace them with more balanced, realistic perspectives. CBT also involves gradually facing the situations you have been avoiding, rebuilding your confidence step by step.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT teaches you to change your relationship with anxious thoughts rather than fighting to eliminate them. Through mindfulness and values-based exercises, you learn to observe your anxiety without being controlled by it, and to take action in the direction of the life you want — even when anxiety is present.
Nervous system regulation and the mind-body connection
Anxiety lives in the body as much as the mind. I incorporate an understanding of the nervous system into our work together, helping you recognize when your body is moving into a state of alarm and teaching you practical tools to shift out of that state. Movement, breath, and somatic awareness are all part of my practice.
What therapy for anxiety looks like in practice
Our work together begins with a thorough intake conversation where I take time to understand your unique history, your specific anxiety triggers, and your goals. From there, I tailor each session to where you are. Some sessions are skills-focused — learning and practicing specific tools. Others are more exploratory, looking at the roots of your anxiety and the patterns that keep it going. All sessions are conducted via secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth, so you can access support from the comfort of your own home anywhere in Maryland.
A note on comorbidities: It is common for anxiety to occur alongside depression, ADHD, or other conditions. If you are unsure what you are dealing with, that is completely normal — part of my role is to help you understand the full picture of what you are experiencing.
